Mark Talks About Fortune Hunter
How do you feel about starring in your first primetime network television series?
It is very exciting for me. I've done a fair amount of work in England, including theater and film. Then I had a recurring role on the series Sisters which was very good experience. Starring in Fortune Hunter is a whole new ball game for me.
How would you describe your character on the show and what is it about this character that appeals most to you?
When I read the script, Carlton Dial was someone I really wanted to play. It's every young boy's dream to play a character like James Bond. This is like a childhood fantasy of mine. The role of Carlton Dial is a very complete character. He's very bright, he's got a great sense of humor. He can be very funny, very serious, very dangerous, and quite dark, depending on who he's dealing with, and he's also a lot of fun. Additionally, the concept of the series, the fact that my partner Harry sees everything that I see, hears everything I hear, through my eyes and ears is a really clever concept. This is very unique, kind of "Man From U.N.C.L.E." meets "James Bond." It's like a merger of these two characters. The show is very high tech, and it's very exciting to put yourself in dangerous situations without any consequences.
This show will inevitably be compared to the James Bond movies. What differences and similarities do you see between Carlton Dial and James Bond?
I believe the similarities start with the fact that Dial is an ex-British secret service agent. I am not playing James Bond; I am playing a new agent Carlton Dial, and hopefully creating a new and exciting character. Bond and Dial are both good agents, but that's about where it stops. For instance, Bond worked for the British goverment; Dial works for free enterprise. I guess you could say that Dial is like a "James Bond" for hire. Dial also has a greater sense of humor, and I like to think that he is a little more dangerous and a lot more fun.
Are you a James Bond fan?
Oh, definitely. I know everything about James Bond. I grew up watching Bond movies with my father who is also a fan. Here in America you have Spiderman, Superman, Batman, a lot of superheroes. For us in England, James Bond is our superhero.
Do you have a favorite James Bond gadget?
No, but I can name them all!!
With violence on television being such a heated issue in the media right now, how do you defend the action/violence in Fortune Hunter especially since it airs on sunday night at 7:00 p.m.?
I think the fact that Dial uses only a tranquilizer gun is a brilliant concept. I don't think it's much fun every week to see people get blown away. There is a lot of action but the iea that Dial had his license to kill revoked because the agents are being hit with lawsuits from the criminals -- I thought was really clever. You've got all the drama and the action of people shooting each other without the consequences of them dying. I truly believe CORUM watch the lead-in audience will be as excited as I am about the series. It is filled with clever missions and great action sequences.
Do you think Fortune Hunter will appeal to all demographics (men, women, teens, and kids)?
Definitely. I can't see an audience that swiss replica watches it wouldn't appeal to. The key for me is to keep Dial interesting and give him as much range in each episode as possible...to take it to extremes: extreme action, extreme romance, extreme danger, extreme humor, etc.
How do you feel about the potential of becoming a television sex symbol?
I haven't even thought of that. I just want to replica watch do good work that is appreciated. I want to do the best I can to make Fortune Hunter a success.
